CALL FOR TGSBB PhD STUDENT FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS

Seven graduate studentships (maximum tenure 4 years) are available in the Tampere Graduate School in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (TGSBB) as of the beginning of 2008. The starting salary of the doctoral students will be based on level 1 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of the Finnish universities.

These positions are open for students already working or wishing to conduct research in a laboratory associated with TGSBB towards a PhD degree. Applicants should hold an MSc, MD, or an equivalent degree.

Applicants must be registered students of TGSBB or should submit an application for registration together with the application for the studentship position (registration form can be downloaded from http://www.uta.fi/tutkijakoulut/tgsbb/tgsbb-application.rtf).

The positions are intended to provide a continuous 4-year period of support for graduate students near to the beginning of his/her research and study programme, but whose record indicates a good likelihood of completing his/her thesis research within the tenure of the award.

Demonstrated competence in laboratory research is expected. The applicants will be evaluated based on the information provided in the application and an interview of top candidates.

Applicants should submit a signed cover letter, CV, research plan (1-2 pages), and two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from the supervisor of the planned PhD project. The applications (one original and seven copies, in English) should be sent to the registry office of the University of Tampere at the address: Kirjaamo, FI-33014 University of Tampere, Finland to arrive by the 13th of September 2007 at 3.45 pm. Please mark "Application for a TGSBB studentship" on the envelope. The applications will not be returned.
