I. SUMMARY
1.1 Determination of hammer mill;
The objectives of the experiment are to become familiar with size reduction equipment, screen analysis and application of crushing laws.
We have used a hammer mill for size reduction process. It has a small capacity, which leads us to a decision that this mill was designed for laboratory applications. The hammer mill, which we have used, consists of a rotating shaft, which has 4 hammers on it and a grinding chamber where reduced particles are collected. There is a retention screen at the bottom of grinding chamber, which is removable. Hammer mill also consists of operational buttons and ampermeter. The capacity of hammer mill is small, as a result of that we have to avoid from filling the mill with large amount of foodstuff (it leads choking of screen apertures). The aperture sizes for standard screens are 2mm, 1mm, 710 m, 500 m, 355 m and 250 m.
