A-3) History of the Company

In the mid-1860s Henry Nestle, a trained pharmacist, began experimenting with various combinations of cow's milk, wheat flour and sugar in an attempt to develop an alternative source of infant nutrition for mothers who were unable to breast feed. The invention of Farine Lactee Henri Nestle makes Nestle the biggest food company in the world GDP of which is higher than some countries. That company has 550 factories in 150 countries with 300.000 workers and sales of more than CHF 81 billion. In 1904, Nestlé added chocolate to its range of food products after reaching an agreement with the Swiss General Chocolate Company. New products appeared steadily: malted milk, a powdered beverage called Milo, powdered buttermilk for infants, and, in 1938, Nescafé. In 1974, the Company became a major shareholder in L’Oreal, one of the world's leading makers of cosmetics.
Nestle introduced Turkey (or Ottoman Empire) in 1875. The first product which was sold in Turkey was ‘’Farine Lactee Nestle’’. In 1927, first factory founded in Feriköy-İSTANBUL. The capacity of that factory was 500 kg per day.
