•Gram-negative, aerobic, rod- polar flagellum

•The life-cycle has not been completely elucidated
•Penetrate in wounded tissues
•Bacteria overwinter in the vines, emerge and are carried to healthy shoots in spring, mostly via wind and rain
•Xylem inhabitant
