The International Olive Oil Council (IOOC)

• Inter-governmental Organisation, created in 1959
• Presently, 15 member countries: Algeria, Cyprus, The European Community, Croatia, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Monaco, Morocco, Slovenia, Syria, Tunisia, Republic of Yugoslavia (39 countries, 14+25)
• Mandated for the implementation of the 1959 UN International Agreement on Olive Oil extended in 1986 to Table Olives and Technical Cooperation


Functions of the IOOC

• Monitoring and regulation of the world market for the sector products: Economic function
• Controlling the evolution of costs and achieving quality improvements of the products through the transfer of adequate technologies among producing countries : Technical function
• Prospecting and discovering new market potential for olive oil and table olives : Promotion function
